The album reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 and the title track reached number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100! Recorded from April 27 to 29, 1964, at Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, “The Cat” is one of the best recordings Jimmy Smith made under the wing of Creed Taylor.
