Self Nao Yoshioka Limited Clear Vinyl Japan Import edition
Self
Nao Yoshioka
The further she traveled, the deeper she went.
13 years. 11 countries. A world tour that ended not with arrival, but with a beginning.
Light brought her here. Shadow changed her.
Bilal, Braxton Cook, Jamila Woods, Mỹ Anh, Keyon Harrold, Peter CottonTale, Devin Morrison, Sam Wills, Bnnyhunna, MXXWLL. From legends to the next generation, they chose Nao Yoshioka. This album is why.
She didn’t lose herself.
She found herself.
If Flow was about letting go, self is about going deeper, into the light, into the shadow, into everything she had been afraid to call her own.
At the Moment Her Dream Came True, She Found Herself Back Where She Began
The “Inner Universe” Discovered at the End of a World Tour
The World Converges
Bilal. Peter CottonTale. Khari Mateen. Keyon Harrold. Jamila Woods. Devin Morrison. MXXWLL. Sam Wills. Bnnyhunna. Mỹ Anh. Misha. Chien Chien Lu. From Philadelphia to Chicago, Amsterdam to Hanoi, Helsinki to Taipei, the most vital voices in contemporary soul and R&B converged on a single record. This is the fullest expression yet of the World Soul Collective philosophy that SWEET SOUL RECORDS has championed for over a decade: no borders, no hierarchy, just the present sound of soul on a global stage. Neo-soul, indie R&B, Afrobeats, house, spiritual jazz, through all of it, Nao Yoshioka’s voice remains the thread that holds everything together. The world tour that followed Flow built the relationships that made this album possible. Those eleven countries weren’t just tour stops. They were the foundation.
The Story Behind self
When the Flow world tour ended, eleven countries, a dream realized, Nao Yoshioka didn’t feel like she’d arrived. She felt like she was starting over. That instinct became the album. For thirteen years, she had chased the light: recognition, a bigger stage, a better version of herself. But even then, she was still fighting panic attacks before shows and hiding the parts of herself she thought didn’t fit the image. Jung calls it the Shadow, the self we suppress, the potential we leave in the dark. When she stopped trying to fix that part of herself and started accepting it, something opened. This album is what came through that door. It moves from dark to light, but it doesn’t pretend the dark wasn’t real. That honesty is what makes it new.
Still Becoming
From singer to storyteller to songwriter. Thirteen years in, Nao Yoshioka is still becoming. That’s not a talking point, it’s audible. In a Manhattan studio connected to a rooftop, Bilal came in from Philadelphia, sat down with a notepad and a pen, and walked into the booth. What followed was the kind of performance you don’t plan for: lyrics written on the spot and vocals that reshaped the song in real time. It was the moment that confirmed what this record truly is, not a catalog of achievements, but proof that the most exciting chapter is still ahead. With her fifteenth anniversary on the horizon, Nao Yoshioka is not coasting. She is accelerating.
