Bands with a Balkan bent might seem commonplace now, as *Gogol Bordello, DeVotchka* and *Beirut* all have made names for themselves with a Gypsy-Punk blend, but

New York’s **Firewater** pioneered the sound in th emid-'90s. Birthed in Brooklyn basement by ex-*Cop Shoot Cop* member **Tod A.** and boasting guitarist **Duane Denison** (*Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk*), drummer **Yuval Gabay** (*Soul Coughing*), saxophonist **Kurt Hoffman** (*They Might Be Giants*), and drummer **Jim Kimball** (*Jesus Lizard, Laughing Hyenas, Mule*) their debut gets a limited 20th anniversary vinyl reissue with new handpainted artwork.
