RSD 2024 edition
Planet Girls serves as the long-lost version of Sponge’s 1999 release, New Pop Sunday. After releasing back-to-back gold albums Rotting Pinata and Wax Ecstatic, Sponge saw a label change during the recording of their third release. During initial recording of the album legendary producer Kevin Shirley (Journey, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes) was brought in to create a an album more pop-rock in nature, a departure from the grittier sound of their first two albums. The album was eventually shelved and never released, until now.
