Junk Culture
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
In 1984, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) released Junk Culture, their fifth studio album, marking a pivotal shift in their musical trajectory. Following the experimental Dazzle Ships, OMD sought to craft a more accessible sound without abandoning their innovative roots. The result was an album that blended their signature electronic style with elements of pop, dance, Latin, and black music influences.
Frontman Andy McCluskey has described Junk Culture as "the catchiest, poppiest album [OMD] ever made".
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original release, the album has received a remaster from the original ½ inch reels and cut at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
