Documentary directed by Bruce Brown about motorcycle racing in North America and beyond. Aiming to provide an insight into why some people decide to give over the bulk of their time to travelling and racing, away from their family and friends often for months at a time, Brown follows a group of motorcycle racers in their pursuit of thrills and fulfilment. Brown explores the motivation and desire of such people, generally young men, to engage in the ever-dangerous act of racing.

Brown himself is an enthusiast of the sport, as is the celebrated Steve McQueen who is along for the ride. High-stakes motorcycle racing events from around the world are also featured, including such extreme forms as ice racing in Quebec, Canada and a six day cross-country trial in Spain.
