Gorgias
Plato
To this day educators talk of the Socratic method, a form of teaching which involves the kind of dialogue that blurs the lines between student and teacher. This work is the inspiration behind that method. It lays out a dialogue between Socrates, Gorgias, Polus, and Callicles on the nature of politics. Should leaders sacrifice expediency in the name of principle or rule pragmatically and get things done for the greater done? To this day we don't have a convincing answer, but we have yet to hear a more elevated discussion of the topic.
