The development of new technological innovations that can contribute to the continuation of industrialization requires a novel approach. This book presents a generic theory that provides the basic framework to guide empirical research to investigate the root causes of changes in nature and to discover principles that are laws of the relevant generic sort. Research worker's task will be to just turn to experiment to eliminate all possibilities but one. The uneliminated hypothesis confirms the specific law. This in turn will confirm the more generic theory that predicted the existence of a law of that relevant form. While the specific laws are empirical, the "law about laws" is rather a necessary truth that is knowable a priori. The examples included in this book are focused on phenomena that require a better explanation, and on new and interesting aspects of nature for which we have little or no scienti?c understanding.
