The first number in the series entitled "Family Issues" is focused on the family in the Philippines with its customs, tradition, ritual, practices and issues. This part also discusses the issue on separation of Filipino families due to labor migration including the lights and shadows of the family. Pope Francis says: "In the Philippines, economic situation has caused families to be separated ... financial problems strain many households. Family threatened by growing efforts of some to redefine the institution of marriage, by relativism, by culture of the ephemeral, by a lack of openness to life" (Visit to the Philippines, Jan. 15-19, 205).
