Psalms of the Forgotten Ja Sloan

There are many invisible people in the world . . . people who live hidden in the shadows and on the fringes of society. They are "misfits" with small voices. In this story, these are "the forgotten." Tim is homeless and carries a heavy burden he can't put down; Marilyn, an elderly childless widow, struggles with dementia and lives in fear; Bob's a divorced and depressed ex-policeman who is suicidal; Rosita's a very pregnant undocumented immigrant who speaks no English; and Phillip is a lonely young orphan who stutters terribly. As complete strangers, their only common denominator is being in New Orleans, Louisiana on a certain tragically eventful day. Until . . . . On August 29, 2005, a hurricane named Katrina landed a crippling CAT-5 punch to the Big Easy. When the worn-out levees failed to contain the storm surge, those who had decided to "ride it out" were caught unprepared. Many people died. Our five "forgotten" misfits, however, found themselves stranded together in an evacuated house surrounded by floodwaters and marsh with no way out. It was a special house . . . a house of healing . . . a house with an ancient book containing miraculous letters and instructions to go to a glorious hill where they shall find many treasures. What happened during the storm? How did they possibly survive? What are their stories? What treasures do they find? You will need to read the book to find out. But two things are eternally certain: It was all a miracle, and they are no longer the forgotten.
