How on earth could I have been so naive? I met and fell in love with Gilles de Vaux, eldest son of the huge de Vaux estates in France. Our marriage was initially full of love and happiness but when I gave birth to a daughter and not a son my life began to come apart bit by bit, piece by piece, day by day.
