As a doctoral candidate, adjunct finance professor, professional business consultant, and business plan writer, I am often asked by aspiring and seasoned entrepreneurs alike, "How do I start a business?"When I first started out as a business consultant, I would explain to my client, their business status, in terms of the entrepreneurial process, support this analysis with proven academic and practicing business theory, and recommend complex strategic actions for them to take to identify and surmount their next entrepreneurial step. After being met with a glazed-over stare, time and again, it dawned on me that most people don't understand the entrepreneurial process... Duh, right. From this, I took some time to reflect on the entrepreneurial process, or how a business owner starts a company, from start to finish. Surprisingly, for the most part, successful businesses may be started by following 10 crazy-simple steps. From this revelation, I designed a step-by-step process for aspiring and seasoned entrepreneurs to follow when starting a business. Needless to say, when I started to apply this strategy, blank stares turned into lightbulbs. With this said, I now would like to share with you my secret sauce. In this book, I outline ten sequential steps that should be completed to create a solid foundation for starting your company. Hopefully, by following the steps in this book, you will be able to better understand and employ the needed entrepreneurial actions for starting a successful business.
