This book is derived from the first of nine discourses contained in the first volume of Stephen Charnock's The Existence and Attributes of God. The Old English style is preserved. Section headings have been added to help guide the reader through his flow of thoughts. The section titles themselves are derived, wherever possible, from actual quotes in the passage. In some instances, a section break was clear but the passage that followed did not provide a straightforward statement that could be easily leveraged as a summary of the passage. Biblical references have been updated to reflect current norms. Small liberties have been taken in the organization of the material to make it easier for readers to navigate and engage. The sequence of sections remains unaltered. Obvious spelling updates have also been made to improve readability without changing meaning.
