While many countries have made the important step of including the right to health in their national constitutions already, too many people around the world are still unable to access high-quality and affordable care. Lifestyle changes, aging populations, and the related increases in chronic diseases mean that countries trying to achieve universal health coverage must provide an increasing amount of care with the same overall pool of resources. Although the book does get a bit technical in places, it should be readily comprehensible to a broad range of readers, especially anyone interested in or involved in the health care system. If his plan reaches implementation, it promises to be extremely disruptive by killing waste (and jobs), improving quality (and exposes bad doctors), eliminating the need for value-subtracting intermediaries (and more jobs), and forcing down the prices of prescription drugs (and drug-makers stocks). Whether you believe such a wholesale change can occur, this book is also a useful text for understanding the inner workings of the seamy business underbelly of our dysfunctional health care system.
