Listening is a neglected skill in communication. It always receives a step motherly treatment. But teaching listening skill can enhance the communication of tertiary level students. The book deals with the sub skills of listening and teaching of listening skills in the classroom. Analyzing the syllabus of the Arts and Sciences colleges a methodology is suggested for the conduct of listening as a part of the curriculum. Language is a means of communication through which a child contemplates the past, grasps the present and approaches the future. English is an important mode of communication in the international arena of life. It is spoken by 300 million people as their native language and millions use it as an additional language or a second language or a foreign language. It is the associate language of the Union Government of India. For almost two centuries it has been playing a crucial role in its educational system. Research on English language learning is being undertaken in terms of strategies, materials, methods, and approaches. But each of these domains is in turn analyzed in terms of all four skills and strategies.
