Financial crises have been more extensive and pervasive in the last decades than in any previous period as an outcome of financial globalization. The global financial crisis of 2008 is a major ongoing financial crisis, the worst of its kind since the Great Depression of 1929. A review of the characteristics of the financial crisis is analyzed in addition to the inclusion of various types of financial crisis; the currency crisis, banking crisis, debt crisis and twin crisis. Furthermore, there is a highlight of the historical perspective of the global financial crisis.
