Hypertension is an important worldwide public-health challenge with a huge global burden because of its high prevalence and concomitant risks of cardiovascular and kidney disease. Hypertension has been identified as the leading risk factor for mortality, and is ranked third as a cause of disability-adjusted life-years. However, till date, hypertension and its related complications remain the most common cardiovascular disease which has been associated with reports of therapeutic failures, particularly, over the last two decades. Prevention, early detection and intervention are keys to its effective control and management.
