This book covers an important topic from the field of intelligent transportation systems - highway management and control. It introduces a concept of highway viewed as a controlled system and describes the significant features from the superordinate control theory. Next, a modular control system is proposed, which follows the theory described above and aggregates interdisciplinary research into one advanced management system. The proposed structure can be used in different scenarios and enables optimal usage of particular modules. The proposed modules are described as part of the next section and for each, author?s experiences are used to demonstrate its focus. Finally, the next steps and author?s future research are described to demonstrate the long term validity and usability of this original concept.
