Like a pater familias, the pioneer of a scientific movement finds himself, after a long life of communicating his vision of the world, facing his offspring. Now it is their vision of the world he must share. He may find such confrontation painful or pleasant, de-. pending upon how much of his own vision he has been able to' impart and how much of it is relevant to the younger generation. This book of Dr. Gretel Leutz is just such an experience, fortun ately a pleasant one. Dr. Leutz has, broadly speaking, divided her book into several sections which cover explanation of the technical aspects and of their anthropological roots, the wide scope of the three branches of the sociometric system known as group psy chotherapy, sociometry and psychodrama, and she gives a glimpse of the import of these various approaches for the future of man kind. The conception and completion of this type of comprehensive book is no mean task and Dr. Leutz comes to it particularly well equipped. She was my collaborator on the translation of my book WHO SHALL SURVIVE? into German in 1953, when it ap peared under the title "Die Grundlagen der Soziometrie, Wege zur Neuordnung der Gesellschaft," she spent a great many years teaching and applying sociometric and psychodramatic methods in varying settings and now has contributed to the literature this textbook on psychodrama entitled "Psychodrama, Theorie und Praxis," which is a clear exposition of the classic formulation of my work."
