This is the preface. There have been any number of political assassins of major political figures throughout history. To the best of my knowledge there have only been four women of this stature, at least in modern times. But what a quartet! And what choice victims!They all changed the course of history. Three of their victims were: the founder of Islam, the founder of the Soviet Union, and an American president. The other was a French Revolution ideologue who doesn't seem to rank with the others today, but to contemporaries he was equally as transcendent a figure. In Italian a word for a female assassin is "brava," perhaps related to the English word "brave." That's what these women were. I present them here in chronological order alongside their victims. You can say their names loud and proud. In each case the victims had it coming. These were justifiable homicides and the women, each and everyone, are heroines for the ages.
