Most people don't know what angioedema is although they have probably heard of anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock. Angioedema is the swelling of the deeper layers of the dermis which can be life threatening if the swelling occurs in the throat or other vulnerable areas. At best it is a nuisance which needs monitoring but it can also cause distortion of the features if the swelling is lopsided. It may also necessitate a number of different sizes of clothing to accommodate the swelling. It is also associated with urticaria and hives and other common, but nevertheless, debilitating allergic conditions This is a personal story of living with a condition of which little is known about but appears to be on the increase There is good reason for this as the author discovered when using her research skills to learn more about the condition. More importantly, she learned what her condition would respond to and respond so well, that she is now symptom free. The book is is well illustrated with photos from the author's own personal bank which show the effects of the condition. If you didn't know or understand the effects of angioedema before, you will after reading this book. The principles learned can be applied to allergic conditions as well as the non IgE responses which can be found in idiopathic angioedema.
