When I left that night to pick my son up from the airport, all was quiet. By the time I got back, all hell had broken loose. Nothing could have prepared me for what was happening and what would come. I've been through fires before. Earthquakes. Train crashes. Community tragedies. But I've never been through anything quite like the Sonoma County fires. Some might say they tore the city apart. Others might say they brought it together. All I know for sure is that I've never in my life felt more heart, love and strength than I did in the aftermath of that devastation. There's a reason why, "The Love in the Air Is Thicker Than the Smoke" became the motto for the community and surrounding cities. It's because that's how it felt to live there.
