The passionate pursuit to heal the human spirit is happening. Every day, brave souls venture inside themselves where true treasure may be found. In her fourth and most passionate book, "Waking up Grateful: Turning a Painful Past into a Purposeful Present," author and speaker Pamela H. Say, BA, MBA, CFRE offers a glimpse into her journey of unbecoming. Too many people live their lives grappling with an unrelenting ache inside, masked only by the busyness we create. We often attribute it to external things - a difficult job or boss, an unfulfilling marriage, economic woes, lack of meaningful friendships, a sense of not fitting in, the pain of abuse and human suffering. Yet, no matter what we do to change our external circumstances, that nagging pain remains. After walking the enlightening journey of recovery from years of trauma and post traumatic stress, Pamela found that it was not the external problems of life that confounded her. It was the absence of her truest and most authentic self. To alleviate her own subtle suffering, she spent years traveling to an inner place, to find what had been hiding inside all along."There are two things that happen frequently in our lives," Pamela said. "Teenage defiance and mid-life crises! One happens when our minds develop the capacity to reason and we begin to have a voice of our own. The other, when we realize we silenced ourselves for so long, that we begin to shout - though we likely have no idea what we're shouting about." After facing an emotional rock-bottom at the age of forty and unwilling to settle for a life half lived, Pamela began the process of recovering her true self. Through intensive therapy, group work, study, and deep, meaningful relationships - Pamela found something she did not even know was missing. Herself. She learned how to turn anger into confidence; codependence into empathy with boundaries; workaholism into unbridled creativity balanced with play; fear into healthy questioning; and silence into a calm, inner voice. Through the telling of everyday challenges and stories, Pamela reveals how her journey of self-loss began early. She shows the insidious way in which gradually and undetectably losing sight of who we were intended to be creates a rupture in our soul. As time lapses, the memory bank holds more and more misinformation. Soon, we start to see the world around us through a faulty lens. "Waking up Grateful" is a piece of the roadmap that helps us get back to the beginning. It is a challenge issued to society - to speak of vulnerable things. It is the hope that life can be whole again, even after great suffering. It is the possibility of resurrecting our truest self within. "In my estimation, the inward journey should be our first and primary pursuit in life," Pamela says. "Everything else is just icing on the cake."Learn more about Pamela at www.
