A Handbook for Emerging and Seasoned Authors M J J Simms-Maddox

There is no secret code or foolproof method to become a better writer and ultimately publish, but there are industry standards that all successful authors typically follow, one way or another.

This step-by-step approach starts with five rules that the author follows when she writes. These rules may or may not apply to your situation. The point is to establish a regimen that works best for you.

In addition, the author shares creative writing tips, including standards for developing characters. Also included are "A Word about Establishing Your Writing Career as a Business," "A Word about Literary Agents, Writing a Query Letter," among other "Words about" other subjects new and emerging authors might appreciate.

Then come seven steps and detailed procedures essential to becoming a published author. New and emerging authors are encouraged to establish a budget and then obtain the proper tools to write. Retaining a professional editor is also crucial, no matter how well one writes. But the most critical step is publishing, for which there are many substeps. But there is more. The most technical aspect of the approach is converting manuscripts into digital printing and electronic files, and this handbook also addresses audiobook conversion. Then, to bring attention to books, authors must actively promote them. Finally, authors are encouraged to modify these steps to suit their own situations.
