The story of Max, Tom and their boys continues, and the first roadblock to be surmounted is the school workshop about gay youth and the concern of those youth ending their lives prematurely. It begins easily enough, but when it's Max's turn to share, he manages to open the eyes of the school's employees as to what it's really like for gay kids to grow up in this repressed country and the pothole-littered road they must travel. An unexpected guest suddenly arrives, and he has a surprise for everyone before Alex, Joey, and T. J. take their turn with even more surprises for the assemblage. With the stress of the workshop behind them, it looks as though life can carry on smoothly as they prepare for Joey and Alex's first birthday with their new family. Unfortunately, Max has one more big surprise for everyone, including himself, a shocking discovery from his own youth that threatens the very core of his being, not to mention the very foundation and happiness of his newly built family. Will the family be torn apart by this sudden detour, or will their bond grow ever stronger because of it? Only time, and strong wills, can answer that question.
