Reasons for this spike in music consumption can generally be attributed to increased accessibility to devices and streaming services. However, each individual's reason for listening to music is vast and complex. For most of us, music is used as entertainment. Whether you are driving down the freeway, chilling out in your room, or partying like a rock star, music is playing in a plethora of environments. For some, music serves a completely different purpose. The elderly lady at the assisted living facility listens to music to elicit old memories and improve her hearing. The young boy in the inner-city listens to music, and even creates his own, to stay off the streets and avoid gang violence. While we each have different reasons for listening to music, daily music consumption can be advantageous for all of us, both for our mental and physical well-being.
