Over twenty-five years ago, practicing attorney and public defender Bob Ingersoll began writing a column for Comics Buyer's Guide about how comic-book authors all too often get the law wrong in their stories.

In addition to exposing bad law and explaining how the likes of the Joker, Doctor Strange, and the Justice League of America might do better next time, he offered his services as a legal consultant for comic-book writers. Notables such as Tony Isabella, Marv Wolfman, Peter David, Kurt Busiek, and Mark Waid took him up on it.
