In this collection of stories the madness takes many forms, from the fevered mania of the painter, and the portrait which obsesses her, to the quiet madness of the inner-city, where night people gather in the shadow of the cathedral. There is the reckless urge of the young girl on the cusp of womanhood, needing to be noticed but drawing attention from the wrong quarter, and the mounting panic of the artist´s model, anticipating his next commission which might just be the death of him. And of course there is the insanity that runs in the family, that of the possessive guardian who just goes a little mad sometimes.
