Having run into riots in Egypt and Greece, this trip was a meticulously planned journey through some of the archaeological and natural wonders of Turkey. That was until President Erdogan annoyed the vast majority of the country and hordes of Turks stormed Taksim Square in Istanbul, some 100 yards from where my hotel was booked. Not one to give in to political pressure, I boarded my flight from London regardless and began a wonderful three week journey of discovery that changed not only my view of the past but also of the current world we live in. Allow me to take you on this three week tour of this fascinating country and share my thoughts on the wonderful people who live there.
