Process of Atonement Nelson Baker

We look to Christ on the cross and know that it is part of his atonement for humanity. We try to understand what is atonement, how it is accomplished by his death on the cross. We can best understand the method of atonement when we understand its purpose. The purpose of atonement is to lift humanity to become one with our Eternal Father. To become one includes becoming whole, complete, perfected, and to obtain a fullness of God our Father. It is apparent that no single act, however magnificent, will accomplish this purpose. Humanity works by increments, line upon line, step by step. This being the case, we can see atonement, including the cross, as a process in which all its objectives ultimately are accomplished. In summary, through the atonement we will be guided "into all truth."
