Io... and the road home highlights an essential journey we would do well to take ourselves! The short but powerful narrative of a first generation immigrant from Sicily addresses the challenges in staying connected with families of origin. Though reasons may vary, bonds do get stretched, and over time the branches receive less and less sap drawn from the trunk of the tree. Initially, the effect may seem inconsequential. But it never is.... The social and moral fabric of individuals and even nations, are nurtured and matured within the context of caring parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. In this setting, the roots of our identity, character and values are fed and strengthened through interaction with those who know us best--and then willingly, decide to love and accept us anyway! Our families are gifts and the road home is never as difficult as it may seem!
