Gloucester is located at the centre of the Severn Vale, this is linked to the Sharpness Docks along the 16 mile Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. This was a vital waterway back in the 18th century bringing trade in and out Gloucester Docks. This then saw Gloucester Dock as the most in-land port of England.
