The story is the chronicle of Nolia Griffith and his family, from the time he arrives in America from Ireland in the early 1800's through the Civil War. It is set primarily in Mississippi (Woodall Mountain, near Iuka, MS), and deals with the family's struggle to make their way amidst the turmoil of antebellum and Civil War Mississippi.
