"Shanika Finally Understands" is a heart warming easy to read story of two sisters growing up without a father in the home. The oldest, Shanika is a curious, bright and sweet seven year old. She has a close relationship with her mother and little sister, Tiara. The "Bring Your Dad to School Day" program forces Shanika to face reality. Shanika is ashamed to admit to her teacher and classmates that her Daddy doesn't live with them. Like most kids when faced with a problem that their young minds cannot understand, Shanika resorts to making up make believe stories about her father, who at sometimes was an astronaut, and other various important people. After having a Mother and Daughter talk, the story has a happy ending with Shanika understanding that the most important thing that makes a happy home is Love.
