Prior to leaving Carson City, Marshal Creek was recognized as the outlaw Nevada Mike. Certain men headed out to capture him and to also collect the reward money. While conflicts continued between the states over the Civil War, and the Congress and the President not seeing eye to eye, and with the cavalry preparing to wage war on the Indians, times were very hard in the territories.
