WHY NOT A BOOK ON MY FATHER?The reason is that stars do not fall out of the sky every night. The moon on the contrary keeps faith with its shift and dutifully goes into hiding when it is expected to. But never has the moon fallen out of the sky! There is nothing abnormal about running a shift as the moon does but there is great beauty released when a shooting star falls out of the sky!If you doubt me, ask your grandfather. Some nights, it is easier for the head of a Carmel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a star to be seen at all. Ask people of the African rain forest: there is so much humidity that some days, water rises like a python or anaconda standing on its tail, competing unflinchingly for height with a tall hundred year old tree on whose hand will touch the sky first! On such days, when the clouds are pitch dark, the face of the moon is covered with so much water that it shines not and if in a rare night, gigantic moon cannot be seen, how can a mere star?Yet, the truth remains that though the moon looms large daily and dominates our life and nights in particular, it is so routine and ordinary that we take it for granted!However, when a star, once in a while, falls out of the sky, though we are not able to pick the corpse for proper burial, we acknowledge the illuminated fall and sing dirges in its memory. A fallen star has never gone uncelebrated where I come from. My father was the moon in my life, my mum the star! In fact, mum was a shooting star! Lives momentarily but gets all the attention it deserves!Three times, I saw my mother shoot out of the sky and I want to tell you about those three occasions in this slim book.
