German Renaissance artist Albrecht Duerer is held up as perhaps the most significant artist of his time, particularly for his print-making. The son of a Nuremberg goldsmith, Duerer was introduced early to the tools in his fathers' trade. When he was eventually allowed to train as an artist, Duerer apprenticed to a local publisher before traveling throughout Europe, where he encountered artists who greatly influenced his work. By age 30, Duerer had already created many of the works printed here. Over the next few decades, he created woodcuts and engravings that revolutionized printmaking as a form of fine art. His technical brilliance grew, resulting in a trio of masterpieces: "Knight, Death, and the Devil," "Melencolia I, " and "Saint Jerome in His Study." Along with these three engravings, this calendar includes nine additional works' each equally intense and fascinating.
