The life of a Black male is a conflict, and an interesting one indeed. We have been subconsciously taught to be more like our "lighter" counterparts and that we are only good for correctional facilities or athletic activities. Society says our emotions should be tucked away with a lock and key and to compete amongst ourselves, for there is no such thing as, "unity." We idolize the greats like Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, and Denzel Washington; however, greatness is all around us! Therefore, one does not have to seek media outlets to gain wisdom. Neighbors, teachers and local professionals alike, are more than happy to share their perspectives with you; if only you'd just simply ask. Written on these pages, are pieces of advice from local and widely recognized Black men, who although, are successful in their own, respective rights, are not "global superstars" by society's definition. I've asked these gentlemen one question: "If you could give a little Black boy one piece of advice towards a successful life, what would it be?" Sapere Aude.
