The author, a professional photographer, helped them evolve from photographs to drawings, so they have shadows, highlights, and many of the subtleties from their original photograph, now in varying shades of grey. What this means for you as the coloring artist, is that you have a great deal of freedom to determine how these pictures will evolve with color applied to them.
