Author travels to Italy for four days during Easter Week. She shares her journal, paintings, images, and insights as she travels through Italy's heartland. She is meeting her son who is a student in Ferrara as they both acquaint themselves with a land so many of their friends and grandparents left when only children. Mother and son travel together from Ferrara to Florence, Rome, and Bologna. The author hears "bombs" on Easter Sunday only to discover that the Italians use firecrackers to announce the Resurrection of Christ; they walk through a strike in Florence where the students and labourers part the way for them. From the moment the author arrives in Bologna until the moment she leaves, the adventure is non-stop. The journey is summarized through the summary of dream imagery: in Italy there is the sense of life, in Ferrara is the scent of life.
