Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett, born in 1926, was raised in New York City and scored his first number one hit in 1951. He became very successful with his repertoire of popular music, standards, show tunes, and jazz. During the height of the rock music era his career temporarily turned down, but he made a remarkable comeback recently, culminating in this year's 'Duets' release on which he collaborates with singers like Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Norah Jones and John Mayer. Music on Vinyl now rereleases two of his older gems. The 1962 ´I Left My Heart in San Francisco´ is one of the best-selling albums of Bennett's career. It includes the song ´I Left My Heart in San Francisco´, which turned out to be his signature song, and material that back then only had been released on singles accompanied with unreleased recordings from earlier sessions. ´The Movie Song Album´ is a 1966 studio album that consists of songs from films, opening with the theme from The Oscar. Bennett described the album in his autobiography as his "all time favorite record". Among the arranger and conductors were none other than Neal Hefti and Quincy Jones.
