Amadeus Quartet
F. Schubert
Three Austrian émigrés, **Peter Schidlof** (viola), **Norbert Brainin** (violin) and **Siegmund Nissel** (violin) joined up with the British cellist **Martin Lovett** and formed the **Amadeus Quartet** in 1947. Their smooth, seamless style of playing attracted a large following.
*'The String Quartet in D minor, "Der Tod und das Mädchen"'* (Death and the Maiden), is considered one of **Schubert's** finest chamber works. *The String Quartet in C minor* ("Quartettsatz") is the first movement of a string quartet that **Schubert** never completed and regarded as one of the first products of **Schubert's** mature phase of composition.
