Une Biographie Expliquee Par Isabelle Safa
Alexandre Dumas / Temoin et Passeur Dhistoire
The Presses Universitaires de France and Frémeaux & Associés offer this biography of Alexandre Dumas, by Isabelle Safa, associate professor of modern literature and doctor of French literature. If we all share the stories of Dumas, through their book and film adaptations, the life of the writer and his inscription in history are not always familiar to us. Serial novels, theatrical creations, romantic adventure, republican commitment, dramatic criticism, travelogues, his relationship to the black question, are all aspects of the itinerary of the man of letters that Isabelle Safa gives us. His developed and contextualized biography highlights the one whose name "is more than French, it is European; he is more than European, he is universal", says his faithful friend and nevertheless literary rival, Victor Hugo.
