Wuthering Heights is an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë, published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. It concerns two families of the landed gentry living on the West Yorkshire moors, the Earnshaws and the Lintons, and their turbulent relationships with Earnshaw's adopted son, Heathcliff. It follows the life of Heathcliff, a mysterious gypsy-like person, from childhood (about seven years old) to his death in his late thirties. Heathcliff rises in his adopted family and then is reduced to the status of a servant, running away when the young woman he loves decides to marry another.the nature of loveCritical Essays Major ThemesOf the major themes in Wuthering Heights, the nature of love - both romantic and brotherly but, oddly enough, not erotic - applies to the principal characters as well as the minor ones. Every relationship in the text is strained at one point or another.
