Barnaby Rudge (Annotated)

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-Barnaby Rudge by Charles Dickens. It is a historical novel by the English writer Charles Dickens. Barnaby Rudge was one of only two novels (the other being The Antique Shop) published by its author in his weekly owned Master Humphrey's Clock, which only appeared in the period 1840-41. Barnaby Rudge is set in the so-called Gordon Riots, anti-Catholic riots in England in 1780. Barnaby Rudge was the fifth of Dickens' novels to be published. It was originally planned to appear first, but publisher changes led to many delays, and it first appeared in serial form in the aforementioned weekly, the Clock, from February to November 1841. It was the first attempt on the part of of its author of practicing the historical novel; he only published another such novel: A Tale of Two Cities, also set in times of revolution. It is one of his least appreciated novels and has rarely been adapted for film or television. Its last adaptation was for a BBC television series, in the 1960s. Many years before, a silent film had been filmed, released in 1915. Charles Dickens - Charles John Huffam Dickens FRSA (February 7, 1812 to June 9, 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is considered by many to be the best novelist of the Victorian era.
