The scientific definition of this concept is quite complicated, but if you explain in simple words, it is active substances that are synthesized in the body, necessary for health of all organs and systems. When violations of the levels of these substances in the body comes hormonal imbalance, which primarily affects the nervous system and psychological state of a person, and only then begin to occur dysfunction of other systems. What are hormones you can understand, finding out their functions and significance in human body. They are classified by the place of formation, chemical structure and function. The chemical characteristics are the following groups: protein-peptide (insulin, glucagon, somatropin, prolactin, calcitonin);steroids (cortisol, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, estradiol);amino acid derivatives (serotonin, aldosterone, angiotensin, erythropoietin). It is possible to allocate the fourth group of eicosanoids. These substances are produced in organs not related to the endocrine system and exert their effects at the local level. Therefore, they are called hormone-like substances
