Metamorphosis Jakaila Scaife

Metamorphosis serves as a beacon of light for all who are walking on the path of love, with fifty poems that illuminate a dynamic personal journey, inextricably bound to the story of the African diaspora. The project dissects concepts of gender, race, and class as axioms of identity construction to question long-standing beliefs and Western customs regarding blackness, womanhood, power, wealth, and the essence of humanity. Each poem reflects a particular stage of development, from an initial cocoon, to a vibrant, butterfly with vast wings of boundlessness and manifestation power. The pieces reflect a healing process from childhood trauma, shell-breaking, and holistic transformation. In poetic form, stories of abandonment, violence, shadow work, romance, and self-realization are disseminated. Metamorphosis contributes to the legacy of powerhouse, poetic prose and testimony delivered by black women writers throughout Africana history as a soul offering to readers, replete with lessons of friendship, love, kinship bonds, and more.
