You walk on grass, you step on it, you trample on it, it goes flat and low, and like magic, comes back up once again. No matter how many times you step on it, it comes back up. Grass allows itself to be stepped on (it is lowly), but doesn't allow the steps to break it, this is what it means to be lowly and humble but not giving way to low self-esteem that takes away self-worth. The grass is tenacious and humble, this humility does not take away its strength, but instead, it gives it the power to come back up despite the struggles of life. True humility is not about always focusing on our own inabilities and contrasting ourselves with others. Making such comparisons means constantly turning to ourselves and seeing other people as a threat to our existence. Humble people need not feel like they are better than others. But at the same time, they do not continually give in to what other people want, nor let themselves be oppressed; they simply have a broad and profound view of truth, in which they see their own position without having to argue who is better or worse off. Humility is not trying to conquer self and attain self-perfection, it is about accepting the truth about yourself, and being at peace with it. Ego is more like the stubborn child in us that does not want to grow up, the one that always wants to get what they want over everything else or anyone. Ego is the need to be more than, better than and more respected than others. It is a form of entitlement and superiority that exceeds the scope of confidence and talent. So, it can be right to say that ego is everything that humility is not.
