The author, Robert E. F. Higgins, has led a remarkable life and draws on his life experiences to create his exceptional books. This book, Orphan Valor, is no exception. Is it just a coincidence that his main character, Mick, was an orphan in France at the outset of World War II? Mr. Higgins lived on the streets of Oakland, California, at a young age. Mick is eventually taken in by a Jewish sympathizing professor and given a home school style education. Mr. Higgins never attended high school but managed to obtain a master's degree in Mathematics. Mr. Higgins became a CIA sub-contractor and briefed President Reagan. Mick became a sub-contractor to the British SOE and consulted with Prime Minister Churchill. It may seem improbable to many, that an uneducated war orphan could advise Winston Churchill. Mr. Higgins, a high school drop-out and a near orphan in Oakland, somehow wound up briefing President Reagan. If you have read any of his other books, you know Mr. Higgins is not shy about using lethal force to obtain his desired result. The ends justify the means. Mick uses deadly force in many of his actions. As shown in some of his other writing, Mr. Higgins has an affinity for animals like dogs, bears, deer, and wolves. Coincidentally, Mick has no problem killing humans, especially Germans, but has an unusual closeness with animals. Mick survives World War II, marries an army nurse, and moves to an out of control town in the remote Oregon woodlands of America. There, Mick continues to utilize his unique skills to bring order to the community. If you like foreign intrigue, military-style action, and a little romance thrown in for good measure, you will thoroughly enjoy Orphan Valor. And, as you are reading this book, remember it is based on Robert E. F. Higgins's life experiences.
