Young lawyer Zach Jarvis' reluctance to say "no" proves costly. Although only a visitor to Marsh's Folly, he agrees to substitute for the County Prosecuting Attorney. He meets Sam Dunn, the sheriff, .and his attempts to finesse their disagreements and allay the sheriff's suspicions are all too successful. Sheriff Dunn sees Zach as the key to his scheme to take over the village. Zach must now decide: abandon his principals, join and get rich, or refuse and go to jail on a trumped-up charge of "obstruction of justice". Can Zach escape the sheriff's trap, with only his five friends from Marsh House to help?
